Policy Fellows

A new initiative in policy development

In 2020, the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) in collaboration with the ACN Foundation has established a new program. Up to five ACN Fellows and Members will receive the opportunity to participate in the inaugural ACN Policy Fellow program with scholarships for each individual up to the value of $25,000 (including expenses). The scholarship program is aimed at supporting nursing leaders and experts around health policy advocacy and campaigning on a research area of mutual interest which fits strategically within an existing or emerging health service topic or health policy issue undertaken by ACN. It is expected that the selected Policy Fellows will have completed a postdoctoral degree in nursing or a health-related field, preferably within the previous five years. The scholarship program is designed to enhance research, with a view to Policy Fellows developing and publishing a policy paper with the support of ACN, such as an Issues Paper, Discussion Paper, White Paper or Scoping Review.

The Policy Fellows will work on the following topics:

  • Development of a Scoping Review and Issues Paper regarding Quality Indicators in Aged Care
  • Development of a National Nurse Practitioner Workforce Strategy
  • The impact of a standardised nursing terminology on patient safety
  • Proposals for two further topics will be considered at ACN's discretion
