Nurse leadership

The mission of the ACN Foundation is to provide access, through funding, in support of initiatives and opportunities for nurses to ensure optimum health of the Australian community. As we know, nurses are at the forefront of health care delivery which directly affect health outcomes in our communities.

One of the most important opportunities for nurses is to have access to develop not only their clinical skills but their leadership skills. Lifelong learning is fundamental for nurses to deliver effective health care.

The ACN Foundation supports and is passionate about advocating for greater leadership roles for nurses. Our aim is to raise funds to create scholarships so that more nurses have financial support to undertake focused leadership education so that they learn and develop skills to effectively lead through the challenges faced in health and aged care settings.

The Australian College of Nursing established its Institute of Leadership in direct response to the need to train nurses to effectively lead.

Two examples of programs within the Institute of Leadership include:

  • Mid-Career Nurse Leadership Program
This program presents a powerful opportunity for nurses to develop the skills and behaviours that will differentiate them as a leader in today’s changing and challenging health care environment.
  • Nurse Executive Leadership Program
This program supports nursing executives nationally to continue in the health care industry as they navigate current health care landscapes and strengthen their knowledge and influence in their existing and future roles.

Please consider a donation towards the Institute of Leadership Scholarship pool and know your support will enable more nurses to be highly skilled in leadership dynamics. Or, if you would like to donate one entire scholarship in your name ($5,000+) or as a legacy for a loved one, please contact Laurie Staub (Director of Philanthropy, ACN Foundation) via email or phone 0434 133 619 to discuss the opportunities.
